Climate-Controlled Storage Benefits: 6 Perks to Consider

Four tennis rackets lined up next to each other

There are many reasons people choose self-storage.

Some use self-storage to secure excess belongings and free up space in their home (or between moves). Others use long-term storage as a way to store their precious belongings they don't need every day (but would like to have close at hand).

No matter why someone seeks self-storage, we wanted to share these six climate-controlled storage benefits for you to consider.

What Are The Benefits of Using a Climate-Controlled Storage Unit?

1. Benefits of climate-controlled storage for collector's items

Like many people, you may have a few collector's items that are important to you. Maybe you have a stamp collection, a set of antique china, or a rare book. When these items are not in use, it can be challenging to find a place to store them where they will be safe and secure. This is where considering humidity control comes in handy.

Here are some of the benefits of using self-storage for your collector's items:

  • Climate-controlled units are ideal for protecting fragile items from extreme heat.
  • South Rock Storage facilities offer 24-hour security, giving you peace of mind knowing that your items are safe and protected.
  • Our facilities offer a variety of unit sizes, so you can choose one that is the right size for your needs.

2. Benefits of climate-controlled storage units for pet supplies

For several reasons, self-storage can be an excellent option for storing pet supplies. Perhaps the most obvious benefit is that it offers a secure and convenient place to keep your pet's belongings. A storage unit can be beneficial if you don't have a lot of extra space in your home.

Additionally, self-storage can be a great way to save money on pet supplies. By purchasing items in bulk and storing them in your unit, you can save money on both the initial purchase price and shipping costs.

3. Benefits of climate-controlled storage for sports equipment

Are you tired of tripping over your kid's sports gear every time you walk into the garage? Are all of your golf clubs taking up space in the living room or closets? If you're looking for a way to free up extra space in your home, consider using a storage unit to store your sports equipment. Here are some benefits of doing so:

  • Self-storage units are an affordable way to store large items like sports equipment. You can typically find large enough units to keep your entire collection of sports gear for a fraction of the cost of other storage options.
  • Self-storage units are convenient. When you need to use your equipment, you can drive to the self-storage facility and grab it.
  • Self-storage units are safe. Our units have security features that protect your sports equipment from theft and damage.
  • Self-storage units are an easy way to get rid of clutter. Once you have moved your sports equipment into a self-storage unit, you won't have to worry about storing it or making an unsightly mess around your home.

4. Benefits of climate-controlled storage for heirlooms

When it comes to clutter, there's no question that precious family heirlooms can be some of the most challenging items to store. On the one hand, they hold sentimental and historical value, so you would never get rid of them. But on the other hand, they often take up a lot of space and can be challenging to organize. If you're struggling to find a way to store your family heirlooms, self-storage may be a good option for you.

South Rock Storage's affordable options and various unit sizes ensure that you can find a self-storage solution that meets your storage and budgetary needs! And if you ever need access to your belongings, our facilities offer 24-hour access to get what you need when you need it.

5. Benefits of climate-controlled storage units for businesses

When it comes to businesses, sometimes there is just too much stuff. Between paperwork, inventory, and equipment, it's easy for a company to become overwhelmed, and moving to a larger office building is the last thing they want to do. This is where climate-controlled storage can help. By renting a unit, businesses can clear out some extra space and return to what they do best: providing goods and services to their community.

Climate-controlled storage units from South Rock can provide a place to store excess inventory. This is especially helpful during the holidays or industry peak seasons when stock tends to pile up. It can also be used as storage for furniture or equipment while offices are being remodeled, repurposed, or relocated.

Our self-storage can also be helpful from a financial standpoint. Many businesses save money on rent by using a unit instead of leasing additional office space.

6. Benefits of climate-controlled storage facilities in Wichita during harsh weather

We know the hot and humid summers and dry and cold winters in Wichita. We also know that inclement weather can roll in at any moment. Climate-controlled storage units from South Rock Storage offer our community a convenient and safe place to store their belongings safe from extreme temperatures and unfavorable weather.

What Should You Look For When Renting a Unit?

Here are some tips for choosing the best climate-controlled storage unit for you:

  • Make sure to select a unit that is the right size for your needs or inventory. This will help ensure that you have enough space and that you're not paying for extra space you don't need.
  • If you're storing items that do not need to be kept in a specific climate, then ask about non-climate controlled options. At South Rock Storage, we're proud to offer our customers both options.
  • Check the security features of the unit. Here at South Rock Storage, our facilities are gated, have 24-hour video surveillance, and are well lit for nighttime access. Security features like these are essential for keeping you and your belongings safe and secure.
  • Check out the location: When renting a self-storage unit in Wichita, Kansas, it is essential to check the location of the business. It is also vital to ensure the facility is near your home or work to be easily accessible to you. The facility should also be easy to get to, with plenty of parking.

At South Rock Storage, we understand that your boat is a big investment. That's why we offer secure storage units to help you protect your investment.

We understand that your boat is a significant investment at South Rock Storage. That's why we offer secure storage units to help you protect your investment. Whether you need to store your boat for the winter or you're looking for long-term storage, we have a unit that will fit your needs. As you prepare to store with South Rock Storage, follow our helpful guide for proper storage to ensure your boat is ready for the next season. Please note that these are our recommendations. Do your research, and consult your owner's manual for specific instructions. Clean your boat To prepare your boat for storage, we recommend cleaning it thoroughly and drying it completely. This will help to prevent mold and mildew from forming. Be sure to clean all surfaces, including the hull, deck, upholstery, and carpets. If you have a canvas cover, clean it and ensure it is dry before storing it. Remove all items from the boat Before you store your boat, be sure to remove all items from the boat, including life jackets, fishing gear, and any other personal belongings. This will help to protect your belongings and prevent them from being damaged during storage. Drain all fluids It's crucial to drain all fluids from your boat before storing it. This includes fuel, oil, and coolant. If possible, open all hatches and compartments to allow air to circulate. Be sure to consult your owner's manual for specific instructions on how to do this. Use a dehumidifier If you are storing your boat in an enclosed space, it is essential to take measures to prevent mold and mildew from forming. One way to do this is to use a dehumidifier to help keep the air dry. Mold and mildew need moist conditions to grow, so by keeping the air dry and circulating, you can help to discourage their growth. Dehumidifiers work by removing moisture from the air, which can help prevent mold and mildew from taking hold. In addition, it is important to ensure that the space is well-ventilated. Remove the battery When you're getting your boat ready for storage, one of the most important things to do is to remove the battery. If you leave the battery in the boat, it's likely to leak and cause damage. The best way to avoid this is to remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry place. If you don't have a place to store the battery, you can always disconnect it from the boat and leave it outside. Just be sure to cover it so that it doesn't get wet or damaged by the elements. Taking these simple precautions can help prevent your battery from leaking and damaging your boat. Cover your boat If you're storing your boat for an extended time, we recommend covering it with a tarp. This will help to protect it from the elements and keep it clean while in storage. Tarps and shrink wrap are relatively inexpensive, and they can save you a lot of time and money in the long run by protecting your boat from the sun, wind, and rain. Repair damages before storage As the boating season closes, it's important to consider how you'll store your boat for the winter. While some people opt to keep their boat in the water year-round, this can be costly and cause wear and tear on the hull. For most people, storing the boat on land makes more sense. However, simply putting your boat in storage is not enough. It would be best if you took the time to prepare your boat for storage properly. This means fixing anything that is broken, worn, or damaged. By taking care of repairs now, you can avoid long wait times and higher costs later. Plus, you'll be able to hit the water as soon as the weather warms up! Double check your owner's manual Many people believe that their insurance will cover any damage that occurs to their boat. However, most carriers only provide coverage for accidents and acts of God, not damages caused by a lack of maintenance. You could face a hefty repair bill if your boat is not properly winterized or stored. Luckily, winterizing and storing your boat doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. Taking a few simple precautions can help ensure that your boat stays in good condition all season long. Just be sure to consult the owner's manual for specific instructions on how to winterize and store your particular model. Prepare your boat to store While the requirements to store a boat are different in every case, some best practices apply to all. Please consult with the owner's manual specific to your boat, but we recommend the following at a minimum. Be sure to give your boat a thorough cleaning inside and out. Besides cleaning your boat, this gives you time to discover anything that might need repair before putting your boat away until the spring. After cleaning your boat, apply a rust inhibitor to your steering and control cables. Choose the right storage facility Regarding boat storage, there are a few things to consider to ensure your boat is adequately taken care of: First, you'll want to make sure the facility has proper security in place to deter any would-be thieves. Next, you'll want to confirm that the storage unit is big enough to accommodate your boat. Finally, you'll want to ask about the facility's policy on storing boats during inclement weather. This is important to know in case you need to make alternate arrangements for your boat in the event of a storm. By taking the time to find a storage facility that meets all of your needs, you can rest assured that your boat will be safe and sound until you're ready to hit the open water again. Being in the business since 2006, South Rock Storage understands the importance of finding the proper storage solution for your boat. That's why we offer secure, spacious storage units that can accommodate boats of all sizes. The above tips on preparing your boat for storage are only recommendations. Make sure to consult your owner's instruction manual for specific guidelines on how to prepare your boat for storage.

This is an in-water storage option that can provide many benefits. Here are some things to think about when deciding if this is the right choice for you:Marina slips provide easy access to your boat. Simply step on board and go! You don't have to worry about getting it out of the water or loading it on a trailer.In-water storage isn't the best way to protect your boat from the elements. Not only will your boat be exposed to the weather and elements, but keeping a boat perpetually in the water can cause deterioration and damage.A marina wet slip offers security for your boat. You can feel confident knowing that it is safe and protected from theft or vandalism.Dry Outdoor Boat StorageDry boat storage is an excellent choice if you want to keep your boat in good condition and avoid having to clean it every time you use it.Dry outdoor storage facilities are typically fenced-in and have security cameras, which can give you peace of mind when your boat is not in use.The downside of dry storage is that it can be less convenient than marina storage when you want to go for a ride in your boat, especially if you live in a climate where the winters are cold. You also have to factor in the cost of transportation to and from the location, which can be a hassle if you live far away. Another option is dry indoor storage, which can be more expensive, but first, let's explore common dry outdoor options.Parking Your Boat on a Trailer at HomeBoaters often struggle with where to store their boats. Many people have garages, but they are not always large enough to hold a boat. The best option is to find a dry outdoor storage area somewhere on your property. If you have the space on your property, boat trailer storage could be an option for you. You can park your boat on the boat trailer and store it in your backyard or other ample space. When parking your boat on a trailer, make sure that the trailer is level. You can use wood blocks to raise the trailer's front or rear if necessary. It is also vital to ensure that the boat is tied down securely. You can use ratchet straps or ropes to do this.If you are storing your boat on a boat lift or trailer outdoors, it is essential to cover it with a tarp or other coverings. One of the most important is making sure that it is stored in a place where it will stay dry. If you don't have a place to store your boat at home, you may want to consider self-storage.Self-storage facilities offer a variety of different types of storage units, including ones that are specifically designed for boats. This is especially important if you live in a climate where there is snow and ice during the winter months.Your boat will be safe from harmful UV rays, which can damage the exterior of your boat over time.By storing your boat indoors, you can extend its life by protecting it from corrosion and rust.Dry Stacked StorageDry stack storage is a unique and popular way to store boats, cars, and other large items outdoors. The name comes from how the items are stored–stacked on top of each other, utilizing the height space of the building. While this storage method maximizes the usage of space, it is often times very costly. Boaters will usually need to give staff significant advance notice of boat usage as well so that they can use their heavy lifting equipment to extract your boat and place it in the water or on a trailer. The other disadvantage is that you will not have complete access to your craft every day and night.Your Home GarageThe garage is often one of the most overlooked spaces in the home. It can be used for a variety of purposes, such as storage, parking, and working on projects. Regarding boat storage, a garage is an excellent option for those with the space. There are a few things to consider when using the garage for boat storage.Make sure that the garage is large enough to store the boat.Check to see if there is an electrical outlet in the garage so you can power up any equipment you need to work on the boat.Make sure that the garage is well-ventilated so that any fumes from gasoline or other chemicals will dissipate quickly.Using it for boat storage is an excellent option if you have enough space in your garage and it meets these requirements.Indoor Boat Storage at a Self Storage FacilityIf you're like many boat enthusiasts, you probably don't want to leave your vessel outdoors where it can be damaged by the elements–especially when it comes to winter storage. That's why an increasing number of boat owners are taking advantage of a storage unit at a self-storage facility. An indoor self-storage facility offers a variety of benefits when it comes to storing boats. If you don't have a lot of space in your garage, then you may not be able to fit your small watercraft inside.Another option is to store them at a facility.
